Jiangxi Copper Co. is looking for metal resources in South America and the Philippines to secure more supplies overseas, the South China Morning Post said, citing the company Chairman Li Yihuang.

The company is looking for all types of metals with copper, zinc and lead being the major targets, the report said today, citing comments from Li yesterday in Beijing.

The metal producer is in the second round of negotiations for a copper project in Afghanistan, even though investment details and terms have not been completed, the Morning Post said, citing Li.

Jiangxi Copper, China's second-largest producer of the metal, said in November it will own at least 20 percent of Afghanistan's largest copper mine should a final development agreement be reached with the local government.
