According to Chen Guoying, deputy mayor of Tangshan City and representative of the People's Congress, the construction of new plants of Shougang in Caofeidian is moving smoothly, and the first part of Phase one is scheduled to launch operation in Oct 2008, which will contribute to the development of local iron and steel industry in Hebei Province.

Caofeidian has a great advantage for its geographical location and the port, the plants here are newly built, other than relocation of the facilities from Beijing plant, as Shougang brought no equipment here. Therefore, Shougang Caofeidian will have the facilities and technologies of the first level in the world and be a high quality and high grade steel production base when completed.
