Baosteel (600019.SH) announced Wednesday that the orders for elevator steel it received by far this year have exceeded the figure for the whole of last year, reaching 38,000 tons.

    The company said the good sales were achieved against sales sluggishness on China's real estate market. Since 2007, it has received orders for an average of 2,800 tons of elevator steel every month, and the figure is keeping a rising momentum.

    Baosteel predicts the strong demand for elevator steel to continue thanks to faster pace of urban construction in west China and replacement of old elevators.

    Baosteel is the sole producer of elevator steel in China. Its tarted lot production of such products in 1999.
