The conference is hosted and organized by UMETAL, co-organized by Nanjing Iron & Steel Group Co., Ltd., and supported by China Iron & Steel Association.

Background

In recent years, world steel raw material market has changed a lot along with the rapid development of global steel industry, especially in China. At present, China has become the world's largest consumer of a number of raw materials, including iron ore, Mn ore, Cr ore and Ni ore.

In the first ten months of CY2007, China imported 313.8024mln tons iron ore, up 16.6% yoy. The iron ore imports is expected to reach 370mln tons this year, and 420mln in 2008. During the first three quarters 2007, Mn ore imports amounted to 4.58mln tons, and Cr ore at 4.5859mln tons with a yoy 40% rise. In addition, Ni ore imports hiked to 13.139129mln tons in the first ten months, rocketing 360% yoy and likely attain 15mln tons this year.

China's strong demand, firstly, has brought rich profit to upstream materials and driven the development of enterprises, furthermore, it was also the reason behind supply shortage of part of products, resulting in great price increase and continuous soaring ocean freight. The purpose of the conference is to provide a platform for iron ore suppliers, steel mills, ferroalloy manufacturers, traders, shipping companies, financial investors, consulting and research organizations, and industrial associations from both home and abroad, to discuss the issues regarding global steel & raw materials market and seek for business opportunities.
