Affected by reorganization of the international aluminum market and increase in power rates in China, aluminum price on Chinese market has stepped into a vibrating upward trend.

Meanwhile, since April this year, copper price in China has dropped for three months running.

Monitoring by the Market Operation Regulation Department of the Ministry of Commerce (MOC) shows that aluminum price in China fluctuates between 18,500-19,000 yuan/ton at present. The average price of A00 aluminum ingot on June30-July 6 rose 2.6 percent from the previous week and 2.5 percent from early June.

As summer power consumption peak season comes, electricity supply will grow tight in China, and the production of aluminum plants will be affected. Meanwhile, increase of power rate for industrial production has increased the smelting cost, thus propping up aluminum price. It is expected that aluminum price will fluctuate upward in near future.

Monitoring also shows that the average price of No. 1 copper in China in June was 63,153 yuan/ton, down 1.5 percent from May.

Sources of MOC disclosed that copper consumption is bleak, the wait-and-see atmosphere among downstream industries is heavy, and the purchase power of enterprises is limited at present in China.

Furthermore, air conditioner production will enter slack season in August and September. Combining all these factors, copper price in China will be under a downward pressure in the future.
