China's major coal producer Shanxi Province plans to lay a new railway running from Shanxi to coastal Shandong Province via Henan Province to facilitate coal export shipment.

The 1,200-kilometer railway starts from coking coal production base Luliang and ends at Qingdao or Rizhao of Shandong via Linfen, Hebi, Taian.

The railway with designed annual capacity of 260 million tons of goods involves investment of 100 billion yuan in construction.

Pre-feasibility report of this program is under revision and will be submitted to National Development and Reform Commission, said Li Ting, president of Academy of Macroeconomic Research under Shanxi Development and Reform Commission.

Shanxi will take a controlling share in this railway incooperation with other two provincial governments so as to reduce expenditure in transportation.

The railway will be extended westward to Shaanxi Province and Gansu Province in the future.
