A California mining company says it still hopes to re-open an old gold mine in southwest Colorado, despite pulling its permit application.

Wildcat Mining Corp. of San Diego announced Tuesday it would drop a permit request to mill ore at the Idaho Mill in La Plata County. The decision comes after the county planning department recommended the permit be denied because of an unsafe assess road.

Wildcat Mining president Mike Clements told The Durango Herald that his company plans to submit a new permit application. Wildcat bought the Idaho Mine in 2006 and is leasing a nearby mine that has an existing permit. The mines date to the early 1900s.
