China releases first monthly nonferrous metals index
China released its first monthly nonferrous metals climate index on Wednesday against a background of weak demand, falling prices and industrial losses, in an attempt to have a bigger say on commodity prices in the international market.

China's rare earth firm Q1 profit slumps 70 pct
China's major rare earth producer Inner Mongolia Baotou Steel Rare-Earth Group said its net profit slumped 71.71 percent year on year to 69.38 million yuan ($11.26 million) in the first quarter of 2014.

Import volume of iron ore at Taicang Port surges
The continuous fall in the price of imported iron ore has boosted its import volume at Taicang Port. According to statistics from the Taicang inspection and quarantine bureau, in the first quarter of this year, about 6.87 tons of iron ore worth $830 million was imported through Taicang Port, with a year-on-year growth of 61 percent and 60 percent, respectively.
