Responding to the rumor that China will increase the export tariff on ferroalloy by 5-10 percent in April, China Ferroalloy Industry Association (CFIA) said that the Chinese Government has no definite policy concerning this yet, and the exiting tariff standards will normally apply in April this year.

The Ministry of Finance (MOF) and the General Administration of Customs (GAC) published a circular on December 29, 2004, ordering abolishment of export rebates for ferroalloy products as of January 1, 2005. Then, on October 27, 2006, MOF announced that the State Council Tariff Committee has decided to impose an additional 10 percent interim tariff on export of ferroalloy.

Sources of CFIA disclosed that since this year, China's export of ferroalloy has grown obviously, by about 86.5 percent year on year in the first two months of this year. Though China is yet to publish new tariff adjustment policies, competent department is already considering whether to increase tariff on export of ferroalloy.
