China Government: To Introduce Fuel Oil Tax At Suitable Time
(Dow Jones)
Updated: 2007-06-04 15:31
Counter:

China's State Council said it plans to introduce a tax on fuel oil at a "suitable time" and is researching the levying of an environmental tax, flagging possible new measures to adjust incentives in energy consumption to tame pollution in China.

In a long document laying out Beijing's plan to improve energy efficiency published over the weekend, the country's highest administrative body didn't give further details on the possible new measures.

China has been adjusting pricing of key inputs to bring them more in line with international prices after years of government energy subsidies aimed at boosting economic growth.
